Skip green chili and red chili powder to make it non-spicy.<br \/>\nHow to boil black chickpeas: Wash and soak \u00bd cup black chickpeas in water overnight. Discard the water. Pressure cook with fresh 1.5 cups of water in the instant pot for 30 mins or on the stovetop pressure cooker for 2 whistles on high and 30 mins on low heat. Let the pressure release naturally. wprm-block-text-bold\">Prepping Karela<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wprm-recipe-instructions\">\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-15504-step-0-0\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\">\n<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\">Wash the bitter melon and remove any hard\/red seeds. If the karela is small and has tender seeds, it is not necessary to remove them. Then slice them into thin rounds.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-15504-step-0-1\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\">\n<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\">(Optional) Sprinkle salt over the chopped bitter melon, mix well and leave for about 30 minutes. Then Squeeze the bitter melon gently between your palms to remove the bitter juice.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-group\">\n<p class=\"wprm-recipe-group-name wprm-recipe-instruction-group-name wprm-block-text-bold\">Cooking Karela<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wprm-recipe-instructions\">\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-15504-step-1-0\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\">\n<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\">Heat oil in a large heavy-bottom saucepan on medium-high heat. Then reduce the heat a little and add cumin seeds and asafoetida. Let them sizzle for a few seconds.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-15504-step-1-1\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\">\n<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\">Add onions and cook them for 2-3 minutes. We don&#8217;t want to brown the onions here, just cook them to make them translucent.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-15504-step-1-2\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\">\n<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\">Add all the spices &#8211; turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and red chili powder.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\">\n<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\">Then add salt if you did not add it to remove the bitterness of karela.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-15504-step-1-3\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\">\n<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\">Add the chopped bitter melon and mix it well.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-15504-step-1-4\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\">\n<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\">Cover the pan and cook for about 10-15 minutes. Reduce the heat to low. Let the karela cook till done while stirring at regular intervals.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-15504-step-1-5\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\">\n<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\">Add the gram flour and mix well. Then add jaggery and mix well till the jaggery melts.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-15504-step-1-6\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\">\n<div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\">Add the dry mango powder and mix well.
